I first found out about Mickey Mouse from a TV show and the song just stayed with me for forever. It was the Mickey Mouse song where they spelt out MIC..KEY MOUSE. I also had the privilege of meeting a Mickey Mouse dress up character in Disney World USA at breakfast with my family many years ago so I have always been a big fan!!!! I now enjoy watching my young son find much joy watching Mickey Mouse on TV.

We didn’t have Tv in South Africa until the 70s. As a treat asa kid my folks used to take us to watch a movie at the drive-in once in a blue moon. I used to look forward to the cartoon that was shown before more than the movie. Micky and friends were the best cartoons.

First memory of Mickey Mouse was when my friends and I formed a ‘teen group’ (we weren’t teenagers yet). None of our families could afford to go to Disney so instead we rented a film projector (8mm) and a movie all about Disney World from our local library. We watched the hour long program as one of our activities. I remember as a child being fascinated.
Fast forward a few years and I was able to head off to Disney Land in California and also Disney World in Orlando with my friends. I remember skipping through Disney to ‘Its a Small World After All’ after watching the MOST ramarkable fireworks display. I still cherish that first trip to disney and the great picture we took of us all us with Mickey Mouse. On our way out Mickey Mouse waved goodbye to us all. Such a fantastic memory! I have since been able to take our own children and relive the magic of Disney.
