About Our Stoneware Baking Dishes

An essential in every kitchen, baking and casserole dishes are perfect for indulgent desserts, comforting casseroles, marinating meats, broiling fish and more. From our popular Heritage Rectangular Dish with Lid to the Heritage Pie Dish and even individual Mini Cocottes, we have a baking dish for all of your sweet and savoury recipes.

Le Creuset bakeware is crafted from premium stoneware clay which ensures excellent heat distribution. This results in uniform browning and even cooking with no hot spots, so that every dish is always cooked to perfection. Our stoneware is also superior at heat retention so your food will stay warm or cold while serving. In fact, they have unmatched thermal resistance so are useful not only for baking, but also for marinating and storing leftovers in the fridge and freezer.

Leveraging our expertise in enamelling technology, each piece is completely covered with a vibrant glaze that is non-porous and smooth. This glaze is non-reactive and will not absorb moisture, odour or flavour, making our baking dishes versatile and ideal for any kitchen task. The interior finish is so smooth, in fact, that it makes the dishes virtually nonstick for quick cleanup, and also resistant to cracking and crazing.

Stoneware Baking Dish Cooking Tips

Here are a few cooking tips from our test kitchen experts to be sure you get the most from your Le Creuset stoneware baking dishes and casserole dishes:

  • All items in our stoneware collection are original designs, so each piece is unique and may have slight variations.
  • Le Creuset stoneware is oven-safe up to 260°C and freezer-safe up to -22°C, and you can also put it in the microwave and under a broiler. But note that it’s not safe to use on the stovetop or on any other direct heat source.
  • If going from the freezer to the oven, place the frozen dish in a cold oven and then turn on the oven. Allow the dish and oven to heat together to avoid rapid temperature changes that may cause cracking.
  • Likewise, if adding liquid to a dish that is already hot, ensure that the liquid is at the same temperature as the dish.
  • The handles of our baking dishes may become hot during microwave use, especially if they are covered with plastic wrap. Pro tip: cover just the top of the dish and leave the handles exposed.
  • The glazed stoneware surface won’t absorb odours or flavours, making it ideal, cooked or marinated food in the fridge for storing raw and for storing and freezing leftovers.
  • Wooden and silicone tools are best to use. You can also use metal utensils, but note that over time, it is normal for metal utensils to leave marks on glazed stoneware. This is due to the fact that the flatware is softer than the glaze on the dishes. This is in no way a defect, are not permanent and can easily be removed with a cleaner like Bar Keeper’s Friend.

How to Clean Stoneware Baking Dishes

Cleaning Le Creuset stoneware baking dishes and casserole dishes is a breeze. The smooth interior finish makes them virtually nonstick to easily release food, which means less scrubbing when you’re cleaning up cheesy casseroles and sticky sweet caramel desserts. All of our stoneware dishes are dishwasher-safe, but can also be easily washed by hand. Simply use a soft non-stick sponge to wash the dish with warm water and a mild soap. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

For more stubborn stuck-on food, fill the dish with warm soapy water and allow it to soak for about 15 minutes (just don’t keep the dish immersed in water). Once the food residue has softened, it should easily release with a soft sponge and a little soapy water. As noted above, a mild cleaner like Bar Keeper’s Friend can also help remove tough stains and metal markings.
