Shop FlameThe First: Brilliant from the Beginning
In 1925, Le Creuset changed the culinary world forever by introducing the first cast iron cookware coated in vibrant, durable enamel. The cookware of the day was gray or black—and often utilitarian and rough. Le Creuset's porcelain enamel made cast iron cookware is easier to use and clean, eliminating the need for pre-seasoning and special care. In addition to improving the function of cast iron, the pioneering enamel coating brought colour to a sea of grey cookware, establishing Le Creuset as the leader in colour and design. Flame was Le Creuset's first colour: a bold, brilliant shade of orange directly inspired by molten cast iron poured from the crucible. Glowing from deep, earthy orange to light, Flame's distinct gradient is reminiscent of the cast iron cooling process, and the unique ombré effect became a trademark for Le Creuset.
The Finest: Enduring Quality for Generations
For nearly a century since Flame was introduced, all of Le Creuset's enamelled cast iron cookware has been handcrafted in our flagship foundry in Fresnoy-le-Grand, France. Fifteen or more different artisans work together to perfect each individually-cast piece.
Our beautiful enamel coating was only the first of many innovations that set Le Creuset apart for its unrivaled performance, quality and durability. A piece of Le Creuset is a true heirloom: crafted with purpose, it is meant to be handed down from generation to generation. While Le Creuset's distinctive colour offerings have grown to be the widest in the industry over the years, our visionary commitment to colour began—and endures today—with Flame. Flame is a brilliant expression of the passion and craft that makes our cookware the finest in the world.
